Safety and data at Journex

Eleven questions parents, teachers and club leaders ask us — with the answers we can back up today. Where something is not decided yet, that is stated just as plainly.

Age and protection

What is the minimum age for Journex?

Journex is for 16 and up. Registration asks for the year of birth; younger accounts are not provided for. Registration only happens after the conversation — together with consent to the privacy policy and the terms.

Can my child be contacted by strangers?

No. Chat exists only inside your own squad, meaning the up to four people working on a mission together. There are no direct messages to strangers, no followers and no open feeds. Friendships only start through a handle you have to know beforehand.

Are real names visible?

No. In every social space a handle counts, not a real name. A display name is optional and visible only to friends. Visibility in the league is off by default and has to be switched on deliberately.

Who sees performance and rank?

Only the person themselves. Rank, potential and the twelve skill axes never appear in any social space — not with friends, not in the squad, not in the league. Competition happens between teams, not between individuals.

What happens with insults or inappropriate content?

Report and block work everywhere — on profiles, in messages and on submitted proof. A report blocks the reported person immediately and ends an existing friendship. Three independent reports hide a piece of content automatically. Reviewing is done by people.

Data and cost

Where is the data stored?

Account, profile and progress data sit with Supabase on servers in the EU (region eu-central-1), protected by row level security. For the analysis, conversation and proof content is transmitted to Anthropic, the provider of the AI model in use. What is transmitted, and on what basis, is set out in the privacy policy. Data is not sold.

Can the data be deleted?

Yes, permanently and directly in the app. There is also a data export covering profile, conversation history and submitted proof (Art. 15 and 20 GDPR). Deleting needs no email request and no justification.

How to delete your account

Does it cost anything? Are there ads or in-app purchases?

In the current state of the app there are no ads and no in-app purchases. On future pricing this page deliberately says nothing, because it is not decided yet — a figure that changes later would be worth nothing. As soon as there is a decision, it will stand here and in the terms.

AI, use and responsibility

What exactly does the AI do?

It runs the conversation at the start, turns it into the profile, writes the guides tailored to each project and reads the submitted proof — with one follow-up question where needed. The analysis is done by an AI model (Claude by Anthropic). It makes no decisions about people: nobody is graded or filtered out because of it.

Can Journex be used in class or in a club?

Yes. Clubs, schools, student companies and youth groups can set themselves up as a club; the mission leaderboard runs club against club. Anyone without a club can still take part in every mission. What that takes is on the clubs page.

Who is behind it?

Journex is developed in Germany. Lars Haberland in Holzgerlingen is responsible for the website and the app. Full details with address and contact are in the imprint; why Journex exists and who works on it is on the about page.
